Nutrition for Liver Health

Want to talk about a high-pressure job? The liver handles over 500 functions in the body. In Chinese medicine, it is referred to as the “Master Organ” and is the only organ capable of regenerating itself.
Your liver filters two quarts of blood per minute. In that time a few of the jobs it does are to processes everything you ingest, detoxify poisonous chemicals, including alcohol and drugs and remove poisons from the air, exhaust, smoke and chemicals we breathe. It balances hormones and helps maintain blood sugar levels by processing glucose and carbohydrates. The liver is responsible for so much of our overall health, yet few of us take the time to consider how we can help maintain our livers health.
An herbal cleanse once a year is a great way to support this filtration system. Herbs such as Dandelion Root, Milk Thistle and Nettle provide nutrients while helping the liver to cleanse itself. While most health food stores provide a pre-bottled liver cleanse kit, those can be harsh on sensitive digestive systems. Any herbalist carrying bulk herbs will be able to assist in creating an herbal blend specifically for this purpose.
