Real Scents

Many people think of aromatherapy as just something that smells good. That should be a key factor, yet, that is only a part of the healing traits of aromatherapy. Many of the "aromatherapy" products that line the shelves of common markets now are not really what they are advertising to be. True aromatherapy is from a botanical source and true botanicals often have individual fragrant qualities. Essential oils are intense concentrations of pure plant parts yielding numerous traits along with their smells.

Real aromatherapy affects the body, the mind and the spirit. A product must be truly natural to reveal aromatherapeutic traits and healing aspects. The smell of green helps you to breathe just like being amidst the forest or in a greenhouse of healing herbs. Rosemary (rosmarinus officinale) will alert the senses as it opens the bronchial passages. Marjoram (origanum marjorana) will sedately enhance the breath as it promotes relaxation. So a whiff of a real green will signal healing, be it stimulating or sedating.

The world is becoming more and more aware of the connection with nature and spirit. Certainly there are many good products that line the shelves of the more discriminating stores that specialize in natural products. Beware of products that jump on the bandwagon due to the popularity of the term "aromatherapy." This newfound awareness is wonderful and reading labels can help you determine if it is the real thing.

Doreen DeSerres has been sharing her knowledge of pure botanical essential oils for over 20 years through her Nature’s Spirit product line.
