Talking Teens Prone to Fatigue

Apr 06, 2011 02:11AM ● By Dr. Claire Stagg

Teenagers who excessively use their cell phones tend to experience disrupted sleep, restlessness, stress and fatigue, according to a study presented at Sleep 2008, the annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies. According to an article in the Toronto Globe and Mail, the study followed 21 subjects ages 14-20 with no history of sleep problems. The subjects filled out a 47-item questionnaire and kept a sleep diary, as well as participated in a one-night sleep study at home. The study found that the subjects who used their cell phones excessively had more irregular sleeping hours, tossed and turned more, had more difficulty waking up in the morning and were more tired before midday.
