David Warren, PhD, will lead weekly Pure Land Buddhist fellowship gatherings at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brevard beginning Saturday, August 1 from 3 to 4 p.m.

“Would you like to know yourself better and develop a clearer understanding of the powerful forces creating the world we live?” says Warren. The ongoing, beginner-friendly gatherings will take place every Saturday. Each meeting will include brief chanting sessions, mini-lectures and discussion of the book “Journey to the Pure Land: A Five-Step Guide to the Heart of Jodo Shu” by Taijun Kasahara.

Pure Land Buddhism offers an “easy path” for cultivating mindfulness, happiness and deep compassion for oneself and others. No previous experience of Buddhism is required and all are welcome. Voluntary donations are appreciated. All proceeds benefit the Unitarian church.

Warren was a professor of communications for 45 years at colleges and universities in California, Hawaii and Florida. He has taught classes and workshops on Mindfulness and Nonviolent Communication, also known as Compassionate Communication, for the past 15 years throughout Brevard County. For the last two years, Warren has focused his attention on studying and practicing Pure Land Buddhism.
