“Places in the Heart” Free Teen Writers Workshop

High school students are invited to attend the Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation free poetry writing workshop on Saturday, April 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Environmental Learning Center (ELC). Lawrence Hetrick, acclaimed poet, lifetime educator, author and editor of the Chatahootchee review will conduct the workshop.

Hetrick will explore well-known poems, review poetry you have written and submitted (under your name or anonymously), and challenge you to write a poem using specific words and images.

The workshop is open to all high school students, including home schooled, from grades 9-12. The Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation is a 501(c)3 which preserves and celebrates the home and work of their late namesake poet, as well as encouraging literacy among local teens with their Teen Writing Workshops.

The organization will also host its 5th annual Poetry and BBQ Event, Sunday, April 12 from 3 to 7 p.m. Enjoy featured acclaimed poets, BBQ, open mic for local teens, music and local artists.
