AQUARIAN DREAMS – 25-year History: October 1986 - October 2011

Aquarian Dreams store began in a lavender-colored vintage house in downtown Melbourne as the “Starlight-Aquarian Age Store” on October 1, 1986. Inspired by the old mom and pop stores of yesteryear, the front of the building served as the store and founder/owner Cheri Hart (formerly Cheri Nichols) lived in back with her three children ages 5, 8, and 10 at the time. Her business was always family-oriented, and her children were a big part of it. They offered products and services for sale that were true to their hearts and lifestyle: holistic and spiritual books, yoga and meditation products, crystals and gemstone jewelry, natural fiber clothing, and wooden children’s toys. The community was incredibly supportive, and they were always very busy. Over the years they remodeled the old barn in the back yard, transforming it into the “Lightworker Community Center”, and the grounds became a community Meditation Garden. They offered many classes, healing programs, and events, including the “Earth, Health & Harmony Festivals”. They also published The Lightworker, a holistic newspaper for Brevard County.

10 years later, in 1996 Hart moved the store and three children to Gainesville, Florida, so they could attend college. “Gainesville was a wonderful experience for us in many ways,” shares Hart. “The store prospered there. Yet, it was also a difficult time in other ways.” Five years later, after the loss of a close family member, Hart knew that her heart and healing was in Brevard County. She felt a deep longing to be with friends and community here. The family returned to Melbourne in 2001, and reopened Aquarian Dreams in the old Eau Gallie area.

In 2003, while driving on A1A, Hart noticed a cute little building for sale across the street from the ocean in Indialantic. On a whim, she decided to make an appointment to see it. It was built in the 1940’s and had all of its original character, with high, wood beam ceilings and cedar closets. It reminded her so much of their old Starlight building in downtown Melbourne, she knew this was where they belonged. This building is now painted violet, and is the home of the Aquarian Dreams store. In 2008, they added to the building and constructed “The Lightworker Community Center,” a not-for-profit healing, meditation and learning center.

25 years has passed since the opening of their store. Hart’s son, Jamin is an acupuncture physician (with a practice both here and in Gainesville). Her daughter, Shana runs the store with her. Shana and her husband now have three children. The youngest son, Teren is an intuitive massage therapist, as well as a yoga teacher at Aquarian Dreams).

Aquarian Dreams remains dedicated to the service of our community and continues to offer products, workshops, and services for a healthy, positive lifestyle
