Humane Society Offers Pet-Ed Summer Camp for Kids

The Humane Society of St. Lucie County launches its first-ever Pet Ed Summer Camp to introduce children to animal care, compassion and advocacy. Designed for students entering grades 3 through 8, the week-long camp blends education with hands-on experiences, from crafting pet toys to observing dog agility demonstrations. With support from GL Homes, each session includes lunch and snacks and is offered at an accessible cost of just $50 per week.
Campers become “Pet-Edventurers” as they tour the shelter, spend time with adoptable animals, design adoption posters and help stock the Pawsitive Pet Pantry. “Pet-Ed Summer Camp is about shaping future leaders who understand that compassion is a form of strength,” says Nukhet Hendricks, executive director. “We’re teaching children that how we treat the most vulnerable, especially animals, defines our humanity.”
The camp runs throughout the summer and is ideal for children who enjoy crafts, love animals and might be curious about a future working with pets. “Their support means parents, kids and pets all win this summer,” says Shannon Glendinning, director of development, in gratitude to the camp sponsor.
