Transform Stress Avoidance into Stress Appreciation

Harmony Neurofeedback is pleased to offer Brain Training with NeurOptimal neurofeedback and vagus nerve training. “Brain training is a simple and enjoyable way to build resilience and flexibility to life's stressors and shift the stress response,” says owner and trainer Marly Jones.

Long-term effects of chronic stress (increased heart rate and constricted blood vessels) can lead to cardiovascular disease. Symptoms of stress can include a pounding heart and increased breathing rate. Instead of being concerned or anxious when this happens, one can choose to view it as a helpful response that prepares the body for action and delivers more oxygen to the brain.

In a Harvard University research study, test subjects were allowed to rethink the stress response as being helpful instead of harmful. In the group that viewed stress as helpful, the scans showed that their blood vessels stayed relaxed (did not constrict) despite their heart pounding. This stress response was similar to people experiencing moments of joy and courage.

“While we cannot avoid stress, we can change our perception of it. This allows us to build our window of tolerance to stress and become healthier and improve our life,” shares Jones.
