I’m happy as a homebody. I’ve worked from home for over two decades, I’m comfortable in my space and like my creature comforts. However, since our nest emptied a few years ago, my husband and I have more freedom to travel. We’ve taken several long-weekend get-aways and are creating a bucket list of places we would like to explore. I find myself drawn to locations that are personally meaningful or that can offer a more immersive experience through nature and spirituality.

In our feature article, Traveling With Purpose: Nine Destinations for Spiritual Enlightenment [page 14], Kiki Powers shares, “Travel can be an amazing way to explore metaphysical interests with new people, sites and scenes, in order to invigorate the senses, stimulate the imagination, refresh the mental framework and invite new ideas and personal insights.” I look forward to our longer trips, but I would love to have Harry Potter’s magical transportation power to apparate and arrive in seconds.

On a recent return flight from New York, our expected two-hours of travel time turned into well over six hours of plane time. It is difficult to remain comfortable in a small space for long stretches. Advice from Margi Young in Yoga on Vacation: Simple Poses and Tips for Travelers [page 26] would be handy in that situation. “On a plane or bus, reaching your arms overhead gives space to condensed organs; ankle circles help increase circulation; and seated Figure Four opens up tight hips,” she advises. These simple exercises can help us show up feeling calmer and more centered.

Here's to meaningful exploration!
