LMT of the Year Award
Karen Beckham, LMT and LMC, recently received the 2007-2008 LMT of the Year award from the Florida Massage Therapy Association. Karen, a licensed colon therapist sits on the board of Florida Massage Therapy Association as 1st Vice President, email tree chair, and website chair.
Karen believes constipation is the most commonly experienced and least commonly treated health problem in America and that Americans have the highest rate of colon cancer in the world. Gas, constipation, teeth grinding, forgetting, nervousness, and tiredness are a few of the symptoms that reveal parasites may be present. A parasite is an organism that lives in the colon where it obtains nutrients to live, causing harm in the process. Most parasites require a host to complete their life cycle and there can be over 100 different types of parasites living internally. Karen explains the colon is the foundation; it also can be a breeding ground. To help patients begin their colon health plan, she is offering a "Cleansing towards Freedom" special during the month of July; purchase five sessions and get the sixth one free.

Fit Test for Weight Loss
Healthy Habits, owned by Omi and Lynn Kidd, is introducing a healthy weight loss plan, Fit Test, to Brevard and Indian River Counties. Fit Test is not considered a diet; it is based on the correct way to eat according to the body’s metabolic needs. The customized Fit Test eating plan is an in-home urine test where the primary focus is to help support normal carbohydrate metabolism and proper insulin levels. Since carbohydrates stimulate insulin output, controlling carbohydrate intake is a logical way to favorably impact insulin levels. Lynn states, "An important measurement that has been associated with insulin levels is microalbumin and a vital part of the Fit Test is the analysis of urinary microalbumin." The individual’s eating plan is based on a proprietary synthesis of all the data that was obtained from the urine analysis and measurements provided by the client. Lynn adds, "In the two weeks our family has been on the Fit Test (4 members) we have lost a total of 40 pounds."

Wildlife Care Center Needs Donations
The Wildlife Care Center is a facility that accepts native wildlife that is injured, orphaned, sick, or in need of rehabilitation until able to be re-released into the environment. As no one is legally allowed to tend to native wildlife without a state license or native birds without a federal license, Paul and Jennifer Sypien created the Wildlife Care Center to fill a need in the community. The Center provides stainless steel containments that hold any animal from a pelican to a baby bird until assistance is available.
The Center also offers a permanent haven for store bought or wild raised pets that cannot be taken care of properly by their owners. Many times these animals cannot be released after being made into pets as they may perish. The Wildlife Care Center is in need of public support to continue their mission to help those who cannot speak for themselves. Please call for a wish list.
The Wildlife Care Center is located at 4960 Palm Avenue, Cocoa. For more information call 321-639-8655 or 321-626-8421.
