Incredible Horizons offers Tomatis Listening Training
Horizons Academy is proud to be the first school in Florida to offer the Tomatis program. This non-pharmacological program could benefit anyone, but especially individuals who have difficulties in the areas of auditory perception, processing, and memory.
In children, auditory problems may be identified by speech and language problems, sensitivity to sounds, poor attention, learning or reading disabilities, difficulty remembering or following directions, difficulty in speech production or expressing oneself, difficulty with listening comprehension as well as reading comprehension, difficulty with social interactions, or auditory self-stimulation such as constant humming or self-talk.
Tomatis sessions include beautiful Mozart music and soothing Gregorian chant flow from the state-of-the-art DLS equipment through the specialized Tomatis headphones used by the listener. This increases the capacity to learn by improving how the brain is functioning. During a listening session, children have fun playing with toys, games, puzzles and crafts such as beading, drawing and painting.
Hope, adopted at birth by the Fales, has been diagnosed with so many disabilities including pervasive developmental delays (PDD), Sensory Integration Disorder, CAPD (Auditory Processing Deficit), dyslexia & convergence issues, ADHD, and Asperger’s, it seemed like every specialist gave her symptoms a new label. Now with the help of Tomatis she is ahead of others her age in reading and has very few symptoms left for occupational therapists and speech therapists to work with.

New Online Wellness Resource
Consumers who value "health and wellness choices" have a new online resource -- AlternativesGateway.com (www.alternativesgateway.com) -- to access for both holistic and traditional medical information and resources. The new portal is owned by Pete Esquinaldo, who has enjoyed a lifelong interest in holistic and alternative medical options including wellness programs.
The site provides an online venue where consumers can go to locate diverse information to regain, maintain or enhance their mental, physical and spiritual health. The goal is not to suggest one type of service or program over another, but to give consumers choices to make informed decisions that meet their personal needs.
On the home page you will find a directory with over 67 categories, covering everything from Allopathic and Naturopathy to Yoga. Ultimately, the directory will feature significant listings of holistic practitioners, fitness, yoga or martial arts experts, massage therapists, traditional health professionals and so on. Included are featured articles and holistic and alternative medical news. There is also a search capability for visitors to locate specific types of providers near their zip code.
"We’re a work in progress so we’ll be adding features throughout the year, but we have a good foundation, stresses Esquinaldo."

Does your mother do her monthly breast self-exams?
According to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, one in seven women in the US will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, and every 13 minutes a woman in the US dies from breast cancer. The American Cancer Society states that only 14% of women perform a monthly breast self-exam (BSE), while you'll most likely find it's around 4% of women who actually perform consistent monthly BSEs if you ask 100 random women in the US.
Globally cancer foundations recommend a triad approach to breast health including an annual clinical breast exam, starting at age 20 a monthly breast self exam, and starting at 40 an annual mammogram. By performing a monthly breast self exam, you will know what is normal for your breast tissue better than anyone else. In addition, you are taking preventative measures. And, men can get breast cancer too.
Breast cancer has the best prognosis and less invasive treatments the earlier it's detected. Breast cancer starts smaller than .25 cm, about the size of a grain of barley! It takes 6 to 10 years to grow to 1 cm, but once at 1 cm it only takes 1 to 3 years to grow to 3 or 4 cm. At just 1 cm the tumor begins to spread to other areas of the body. If you found breast cancer at .25 cm your survival rate would be 99%.
When you do a breast self exam you could use the Breast Chek Kit, which acts like a magnifying glass for your fingertips. The Breast Chek Kit is a patented FDA cleared medical device that is recommended by over 99% of medical doctors surveyed. It's inexpensive, durable, washable, and reusable for both home and clinical use. The Breast Chek is just two very thin layers of polyurethane filled with a non-toxic, environmentally safe gel. The fingers now glide over the skin eliminating friction, and enabling you or your doctor to do a better breast exam. The goal of the company is the get one into the hands of every woman around the globe to help lower the death rates of breast cancer.
For more information about the product and/or business,or to arrange an educational in-services about the importance of early detection of breast cancer please contact Jolie Abreu at 407-341-3639 or info@ourpinkmission.com or visit www.ourpinkmission.com.
