Osteoporosis Exercise Group Meets Weekly

Bone-Walkers, a walking exercise, informational and social support group for all ages, who are "at risk" or have osteoporosis, is celebrating its 1st Anniversary. "Thanks to the support of the Satellite Beach Recreation Dept., we have an Osteoporosis support group with monthly speakers arranged by the founder Vicki Buckley," says Lynn Gornto. This educational/social walking group motivates people to make a habit of getting out, getting healthy, get moving, meet and greet and catch up with fellow walkers.

The facilitator, Vicki Buckley, started this group because she has osteoporosis herself and wanted to fill a need in the community while keeping herself motivated to learn about ways to reverse her condition naturally. "Most prominent is her friendliness; care and contagious enthusiasm," explains Lynn, who does the press releases for the recreation department.

Bone-walkers also provides informative handouts and chats with monthly health-related speakers. The group meets every Monday at the DRS Community Center Gym, 1089 S Patrick Dr. in Satellite Beach from 8:30-10:30am. (May 28 – Aug. 16 they’ll meet from 7:30AM – 8:30AM) For more information contact Vicki 3621-779-2947.

Dr. Zito Now Offering Korean Hand Therapy

Laura Zito, Acupuncture Physician and Massage Therapist, has recently completed training in Korean Hand Therapy (KHT). KHT is a method of treatment based on the knowledge that each hand represents a hologram of the entire body. Simply stated, the hands reflect the body’s current condition, so that if pain or dysfunction exists in the body, there will be corresponding points on the hands.

KHT uses no needles; instead, areas analogous to pain in your body are identified on the hands and stimulation "seeds" are placed on those points. The seeds remain on the points for 24 hours for the patient to stimulate for pain relief. "I can now treat patients who do not want or cannot have needles used, as in traditional acupuncture," states Dr. Zito. As a result, those afraid of needles and even children can be treated using KHT.

Upon completion of her training, Dr. Zito immediately began using KHT and is amazed with the results: "After their first treatment, several patients called me to tell me how much relief they experienced. I’m so excited to be able to add this to my patients’ treatment programs."
