Pilates Studio To Offer Weight Management Program

If you’re joining the thousands of Americans who are contemplating life beyond their expanding girth after the holidays, you will be pleased to know that Ab Fab Pilates of Indialantic has teamed up with Transitions Lifestyle System to offer a sensible, attainable weight management program.

Transitions Lifestyle System was designed by Dr. Shari Leiberman, author of Dare to Lose and private nutritionist practitioner for over 20 years. The program focuses less on looks, and more on general health and well being. The long-term goal is to improve health and lower risk of disease as a realistic weight goal is attained.

Education is a large portion of the program. The word diet isn’t even mentioned as participants learn to better understand their relationship with food. Advice regarding diet and exercise are given on an individual basis rather than a cookie cutter approach to weight management. "Why would we offer an identical program to each participant when everybody’s metabolism differs?" says Susan Jackson, lead presenter of the program.

Discussion and support will factor largely in the meetings too, but on the practical side, each two-hour session will begin with a 30 minute Pilates mat class led by Ab Fab’s owner, Jayne McAllister. "I was attracted to Transitions because it addresses why we eat", says McAllister, who has battled her weight since adolescence. "Most programs completely ignore that aspect of the issue, so I’m delighted to be hosting Transitions and helping people within our community".

A free seminar about the program will be held at 6.45pm on Thursday, January 5th at Ab Fab Pilates, 111A Fifth Avenue, Indiatlantic (above Islands Fish Grill). The weekly program starts on Thursday, January 19th at 6.45pm. Cost is $300, including $100-worth of nutritional supplements. To register, please call 321.768.6814 or e-mail transitions@abfabfla.com.

Capoeira Classes Now in Indian River County

Practitioners of Capoeira from the Capoeira Topazio International Show Company and the Cloudwalker Dojo will be introducing classes in Indian River County starting in January. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian dance/martial art involving dance, fighting, acrobatic movements, singing, and playing Afro-Brazilian percussion instruments.

One of the most unique arts in its practice and history, Capoeira was brought to the New World by West Africans during the slave trade. The slaves, however, were adamant in keeping their traditional rituals; therefore, they disguised one of the exercises they practiced called the N’golo or Zebra dance by mixing it with new dance movements, martial arts and music, pretending that it was a leisurely activity. Over the centuries it blended with many cultural practices from Africa, Europe and indigenous aspects of Brazil’s Native American peoples. This new product was Capoeira.

Although it has been practice in the U.S. for more than forty years, its display in such movies as "Only the Strong", "Ocean’s Twelve" and "Meet the Fockers" has made it a hot item in fitness and dance clubs all over the World.

Personal Trainer Launches Home Fitness Party Concept

Imagine eating cookies without milk, and you, instantly, appreciate the milk industry’s point to have milk on hand before stuffing your mouth full of chocolate chips, even if they happen to be organic. Now imagine exercising your arms and legs without CORE, you get injured and then you can appreciate the muscular and spiritual powerhouse of the body before exercising next time.

Now you can learn about CORE in a safe, healing venue of a fitness party. Choose a party theme such as: "Healing Among Friends", "Taking Time for Family", "Stress Melt for Colleagues" or "Six-pack Attack." Then choose the place: the comfort of your home or gym, business, sports bar, beach or circuit training franchise.

According to GOT CORE? Owner and certified personal trainer, Gwen Donovan, home- or business-based fitness parties give people a way to get back into exercise or broaden their dimensions in their exercise program. "You will easily learn CORE basics, in a way that is fun, concise, non-threatening and truly safe and affordable," states Donovan. "Imagine jogging, benching, weight training or doing Pilates without knowing how to work from your core and bingo it’s cookies without milk."

The host receives his or her fitness session for free. Three to six guests split a $60 fee for bringing in the fitness expert, a 90-minute party and a program customized to your party vision. There is a sliding scale fee arrangement for parties larger than six guests. Call 321-504-2999 for more information.

Juice Plus Available Locally

Independent Distributors Suzie Zenker, RN and Christine Bourdeau, Wellness Consultant, are excited to introduce Juice Plus+ to Brevard County. "After working with hospice, we wanted to switch our focus to wellness, we found Juice Plus. After looking at the impeccable research done by many prestigious universities, we were sold," says Suzie.

"I have always had a very poor diet; I started taking Juice Plus+ thinking at least I can do something good for my body. What happened next has been nothing short of a miracle for me. After about 3-months I stopped craving sugar and stopped foraging in my cupboard every night," states Suzie. "That alone is so amazing to me that I decided to become a distributor so I could share this with other people."

Juice Plus+ is the number one selling whole food nutrient in the world. It comes in capsule form containing the phytonutrients of 17 fresh fruits and vegetables, picked and processed at the peak of ripeness. Plants get most of their nutrients at the end of their ripening cycle which we lose by picking them early so they won’t rot on the way to market.
