2007 March Letter
“Mom, I think we need to plan a vacation,” said my son Ryan. “We did,” I replied, “in your backyard.” We recently added a pool to our home and since it was completed late last summer my boys haven’t experienced a ‘swimming vacation.’ I am looking forward to the built-in entertainment and exercise as my kids swim the day away this summer. Fortunately we included a hot tub, so even during the cooler weather we have enjoyed our little piece of paradise. However, Ryan isn’t asking for an extravagant vacation, he wants to go to St. Augustine. He went there on a school field trip and is convinced it would be a fun family day.
We often take mini vacations that are close to home. Since we live in Florida it is natural to take advantage of our good weather and many opportunities. It is fun to stay at a hotel over a long weekend and benefit from the easy transition back home. Plus, less travel saves gas and is good for the environment. With spring upon us it is a great time to consider planning eco-wise travel. On page 29, our Green Travel Guide offers resources to plan your green get-a-way. “Traveling with a social or environmental conscience offers us limitless opportunities for meaningful life experiences,” explains Linda Sechrist in our feature article Eco-Travel, Take the High Road. “Once we know what to look for, we discover ways to make our travel less hurtful and more helpful.”
I must admit Ryan’s idea of a get-away right now is quite appealing. With our Healthy Living Expo just days away, it is our busiest time of year. The bonus of year long planning is enjoying the event itself. To replenish my batteries I am planning my vacation in the new Bodywork & Energy Oasis at the Expo. A massage, some reflexology and an energy treatment are sure to rejuvenate my body and soul. I’m excited to peruse the healing jewelry, try supplements and nutritional juices, and indulge in organic chocolate. I am looking forward to this fun-filled day of positive energy and camaraderie.
In this issue you will find a special supplement highlighting what is in store at the Healthy Living Expo. Plus, find out the power of touch on page 31 in our healthy kids column and consider the multiple benefits of using essential oils with pets on page 22. Discover the latest on the new highly-versatile low level laser therapy. Then, enjoy our interview with Udo Erasmus PH.D., a world authority on fats that heal. Udo shares with us his tips for eating smarter and gaining health.
This spring, may you find your little piece of paradise at home or in your travels.
See you at the Expo!
