From the time I was born, my father worked for NASA. He started in the Gemini days, worked on the LEM and the Lunar Rover during Apollo, and continued through a significant portion of the Shuttle days before retiring. The Discovery Channel aired a series entitled "When We Left Earth." My husband always records space programs since he is a complete, nerdy, space-buff and my oldest son, Kyle, is following closely in his footsteps. This type of program fit our family perfectly. While watching the series, I kept looking at the NASA control room footage wondering if I would see my father. I saw lots of cigarettes, 60’s attire, and seasoned NASA veterans that pronounced the word Gemini as "Ge-men-y", but no dad. Then my mom told me excitedly, "Oh! Dad is on TV!" I was so thrilled but I couldn’t understand how I missed him. During the Apollo episode they included footage of a press conference for the Lunar Rover. I was so interested in the rover the first time I saw it, I failed to notice my father was the one holding the pointer and giving the presentation! Now-a-days anyone can post footage on You Tube, but in the 60s and 70s it was done on film or early fuzzy video. This footage of history being made is classic, and I am so proud my father is part of it.

This month my niece, Alexis, turns one-year-old and we are planning a fabulous party. To prepare for the festivities, Alexis has started to walk. Since my boys are about six-feet-tall now, it has been a while since seeing them take their first steps. I am enjoying watching her discover the world from a new perspective. She has truly captured our hearts and is such a delight. I am really looking forward to watching her grow and develop. Since I have two boys, this is my chance to indulge in the little girl paraphernalia and activities. Maybe when her fingers and toes get a bit bigger we can polish our nails together (with natural polish of course!). Playing with Lexy keeps me feeling young and fills my heart with joy.

This month’s issue features Natural Bodycare to help you care for your skin and hair naturally this summer. Discover what makes skin age in our feature article on page 28. Learn why men are switching to natural skin care on page 32. Find the top ten nutrients for your hair on page 33. Then relax with self-massage tips on page 18 and self-hypnosis techniques on page 22. This summer, in addition to nourishing your body, I hope you find time to relax for some family-fun to nourish your soul.

Here’s to a fun-filled July!
