Quality Health Care Wellness and Fitness Center: “Fusing Traditional Medicine with Ancient Wisdom"

Nov 29, 2011 05:17PM ● By Julie Peterson

Under the leadership of Dr. Deepti Sadhwani, M.D., Quality Health Care has recently been expanded with a 2000-square-foot fitness area that includes state of the art cardio machines, weights, personal training, a variety of classes, and life coaching. The Wellness and Fitness Center is in alignment with Quality Health Care’s primary goal: to provide a path to wellness and complete health (in mind, body, spirit, and emotions) through a fusion of conventional and holistic medicine, education, knowledge, and results for all people.

“People who are on a quest for optimum quality of life need to take ownership of their health,” states Dr. Sadhwani. Along with her staff of experts, Dr. Sadhwani focuses on teaching clients about health and nutrition from a prevention standpoint, rather than treating symptoms after they arise.

First trained in internal medicine, Dr. Sadhwani says she used to treat symptoms with prescriptions because that is how doctors are taught in school. When her son became seriously ill, she became frustrated with her inability to cure him and began looking for the root cause of his disease. “I realized it all came from food and nutrition,” said Dr. Sadhwani. “Eventually, inflammation is the cause of every disease in mankind, and the inflammatory process can be controlled by the nutritional choices we make.”

We are all familiar with an inflammatory response that induces swelling, pain, and redness. This is the body's way of informing us that there is damage to an area. There is also inflammation on a cellular level, which is below our threshold of pain. Since we cannot feel this pain, it is referred to as "silent" inflammation. This is what Dr. Sadhwani works to eliminate in order to improve the resistance to illness and to create a restorative environment within the body, as opposed to an environment that is constantly breaking down through the aging process.

“It’s not rocket science,” Sadhwani says of her approach. “Medical students are trained by pharmaceutical companies. That’s why 90% of medical dollars are spent on treatments. If you depend on the doctors to take care of you, they will ‘band aid’ your symptoms.”

Diagnosis at Quality Health Care begins with a blood test that can measure the amount of cellular inflammation in the body. This is offered thanks to Dr. Sadhwani’s new role as an affiliated physician with Dr. Barry Sears and his EicoLabs. After establishing the links between diet, hormones, and genetics that affect silent cellular inflammation, Dr. Sadhwani can offer a specialized "predictive medical plan" to her clients.

Part of this plan is to replace or supplement any nutrients or hormones that are found to be low, and to reduce cellular inflammation. Most people benefit from Omega 3 fatty acids in the quest to reduce cellular inflammation. Through her nonprofit, HOPE Foundation, Sadhwani offers Omega 3 fatty acids that have been highly purified and microdistilled to eliminate mercury, dioxins, and other toxic substances that often remain in lesser quality Omega 3 products.

Another part of the treatment plan is to learn how to institute a nutrition plan and how to maintain an active lifestyle. Sadhwani’s team and the new Wellness and Fitness Center work to offer clients these options, showing patients how nutritional and fitness goals can prevent disease that they might otherwise be heading toward due to genetic or lifestyle issues.

“We as physicians have to step outside the box and teach about prevention,” said Sadhwani. “Food is the medicine.”

The Wellness and Fitness Center is open to the public and offers classes in abs/core, cardio, strength and conditioning, physioball fitness, Emotional Freedom Techniques, Qigong, and others. Fitness center hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-7pm, and Saturday from 8am-1pm.
